Tile repairs / waterdamage
You can see in these photos that I was able to use the original tiles that were removed from the wall. This was despite the fact that the new diverter was a single and the old hardware had three different knobs. This of course does not always work out that way, but wherever possible I will try to use the existing tile to repair the water damage(especially if it can not be matched).Naturally this is a good time to replace the old diverter ,that is while the wall is already opened up. It is vital that your caulk base where the tile and tub meet be maintained. It is recommended that you have your tub re-caulked on a regular basis to avoid any damage to the backing behind your tile and especially to prevent leaks from making their way to the ceiling below your bathroom. If your grout starts to change color near that base then you may already have the beginning of a problem. It is wise to correct it now while it is a simple/cheap fix. Loose tile is a sign that it has progressed to the point of deteriorating your tile backing. More photos can be found on the link to Billy’s blog on the left side of this page.
